We've got the gang over at All Songs Considered
to thank for such a fascinating slice of exotic electronica. Tucked near the end of their most recent podcast, "Ringleader" proved to be the most compelling slice of new music Bob Boilen and his cohorts recently excavated for your summer listening pleasures. Hazy, rich in a variety of sonic textures, and propelled by a nebulous fog of arousing percussion, the track is the product of Zach Sagin; a restless young producer/drummer from Detroit who's released a slew EPs, remixes, and albums under the moniker Shigeto (it's actually his middle name). A quick dive into his catalog reveals a wealth of ambitious electronic works, riffing on the strains of ambient jazz, instrumental hip hop, weathered field recordings and Eastern snippet's he's cultivated over the years. In the case of "Ringleader", the result is something like the aural equivalent of a box of Crayolas. Try to pick out what your favorite color sounds like below.
"Ringleader" is from Shigeto's upcoming album No Better Time Than Now
which will be release via Ghostly International on August 20th.
