The latest album from folk-rocker, Steve Gunn is a 9-track album entitled Eyes On The Lines, that follows Gunn on a journey. This latest work is explorative, adventurous and listeners are along for the ride. Rich guitar solos and consistent beats lead both Gunn and listeners somewhere else, with more of a focus on the ride rather than the destination.
The album winds through roads and routes with its guitars and drums. The album opens with, "Ancient Jules" in which Gunn navigates listeners through the track with his electric guitar and Dylanesque vocals. Towards the end of the song the guitar finds its sound and path, finishing stronger and more confidently than it began.
Some songs carry a lighter beat like "Full Moon Tide." The song speaks literally about the adventure that Gunn is on. "Out on the road there's nowhere to go," Gunn feels lost on his journey but the rhythm gives him direction.
"Conditions Wild" ventures out "beyond the path you know." This song takes off from the rest with a sound all its own. The strength of this track is found in its hook as the beat takes off with Gunn. The electric guitar is a guiding force through the middle of the album.
The songs follow one another with purpose as they are each a different foot of the journey that Gunn is on. In "Nature Driver" he says he is moving through the seasons/ hoping for the best." Its clear that he doesnt have a specific ending point in his journey and anything significant in life can only be had through the process of exploration.
