Jack White may talk a big game and belittle his contemporaries, but the dude always manages to back it up. It was announced on White's website
that his latest LP, Lazaretto
is not only the number one album in the United States, Canada and Denmark, but its vinyl version, aka the ULTRA LP, has sold over 40,000 copies in its first week. That's the largest first-week of vinyl sales since Soundscan began collecting such data in 1991. Although 1991 was already beyond the heyday of vinyl, White and his Third Man Records' feat is a symbol of the turntable's resurgence.
ULTRA LP included a copious amount of first-time special features, which were certainly a factor in the massive sale surge. White also made frequent late-night talk show appearances last week to sit down and promote the album. Watch him do so with Jimmy Fallon on the eve of the album's release.
