Alright everyone, I know I'm super
late on this... But today's SOTD comes from Chicago-based garage rock band Twin Peaks.
I recently discovered their song, "Making Breakfast" when I went on a southern road trip with all my indie music-loving friends on the way to Bonnaroo last weekend. When they played this song in the car for the first time, I was immediately hooked. With lyrics like, "Nothing lasts forever / But don't let it get you down," feel-good vocal "barks" (I mean, they kind of sound like they're barking, right?), and jangly guitars, this track is not only a perfect road trip song, but a perfect song for summer overall. It's happy, warm, and it doesn't get too deep or overwrought, which is refreshing. During our twelve hour trip, everyone in the car took turns picking songs we listened to, and I must've put this same song on about ten times. (Friends, if you're reading this: Sorry).
I also had the chance to catch the band at Bonnaroo in Manchester, TN after the long road trip, and their live show only enhanced my love and understanding of their carefree ways. These guys truly give off amazing vibes -- You can see they're happy doing what they do and they just want to put on a fun show for all of their fans. See what I'm talking about for yourself, as they'll be on tour all summer long. You can check out their upcoming dates here.
