The theme for today's posts is turning out to be "music that I want to dance to." We posted a dance-hall synthpop banger earlier today, and now we have a sweaty ska-rock tune that makes me want to dance like a man possessed at a packed rock club here in the city. We had the chance to talk with Essex alt-rockers Stealing Signs
about their new single, "Hide and Seek," off their upcoming EP. Fusing slinky guitars, funky rhythms, and 90s vocals, "Hide and Seek" is a pop-rock delight.
Check out the single as well as our chat with the band below.
"Hide and Seek" boasts an unmistakably 90's influenced sound with your combination of pop rock vocals and some seriously satisfying ska rhythms; is that the direction we can expect your sound heading towards for this upcoming EP?
Stealing Signs: I hate to disappoint but I think we hit a fork in the road and go off in all sorts of directions during this EP. The pop rock vocals and rhythmic guitars can be heard in every track and it consistently sounds like 'us,' but we like to mix it up as much as we can. That is part of what makes us 'us.' You can expect to hear a hard hitting opener and a big old last track with "Hide and Seek" sitting in the middle with a smile on its face.
In the middle of a tour now, are you living up to your British punk rock sound with any live performance theatrics?
We dance our legs off and get sweaty in the process. Our tunes are energetic and we like to embody that as much as we can when we play in front of people. Will Daly puts everything into his drumming. It's a sight to behold. George Wood is just fucking great at playing guitar so that's a real spectacle during our live shows. Our bassist, Steve Wheate keeps a hugely tight thing going on, while I jump off of things from time to time. We don't bleed during every show or smash shit up but I think the energy of British Punk Rock is there in abundance.
I can't help but imagine a potential future music video when listening to the track, bringing me back to the good ol' days; can we expect a video release for "Hide and Seek" or any other track off the EP for that matter?
There is a music video for "Hide and Seek" and we love it. It is completely different to anything we have done before, and it captures our sense of humor. We'll be posting other videos on to the Internet as well. We are always up for doing music videos and stuff like that. It's good fun and so far we have worked with awesome people. Expect to see the "Hide and Seek" video appear very soon. We're mega excited to share it.
