Who knew singing through your nose could sound so good? Though he might sound like a teenage boy about to hit puberty, The Strange Boys on Myspace, Ryan Sambol, along with drummer Matt Hammer, bassist, Philip Sambol and guitarist Greg Enlow, create a glorious, 16 track album that's the most flawlessly unpolished effort we've heard since the Black Lips' latest album.

Titled The Strange Boys...and Girls Club, the Austin Texas band pushes garage rock to its' most refreshing edge with just the right 60's psychedelic touch. "Woe Is Me and You", that album's first track, quickly displays Ryan Sambol's pitchy, but lovable voice. Mixed with a heady, hallucinogenic fuzz, the track is awfully groovy, coming strikingly close to the magic all those cats at Woodstock might have heard.

And what can be better than a song at Woodstock? Hard to imagine, but the answer might be heard in The Strange Boys' most vibrant track, "Heard You Wanna Beat Me Up". With a sound that's as daring as the story it dictates, the song recounts a man cheating with another man's girl. Once again, Sambol's voice heightens this promiscuous song with the perfect pitch...a better way to tell this story there is not.

In The Red released The Strange Boys...And Girls Club, on March 3rd 2009. The Strange Boys will promote this highly acclaimed album on their summer tour throughout the United States and Europe, starting June 7th in Austin, Texas. The tour also features appearances by Mika Miko, The Coathangers, The Death Set, Silk Flowers, Nodzzz, Spoon and Atlas Sound. Time to buy your tickets because we are sure after this concert you will be yearning for more bands with teenage boys as lead vocalists. - Lonnie Nemiroff
