Australian singer/producer Nick Murphy, formerly known as Chet Faker, has released a new EP entitled Missing Link. It's meant to bridge the sonic shift between Nick Murphy and Chet Faker and boy, it does. Compared to his past projects, it's much more danceable as well as sinister. The KAYTRANADA-produced "Your Time" is a spacey, sensual plead for reciprocation while the instrumental "Bye" gives the impression that Murphy is gaining confidence, leveling up, and ready to take on the world. "I'm Ready" sounds like it may have been heavily influenced by Radiohead, with the singer's sweltering falsetto, wandering melody, and mix of both guitar and bopping synths. "Forget About Me" works up to a fantastic build where the listeners ultimately hear Murphy losing his goddamn mind. Siren-like synths swell in and grow more intense. The name Missing Link is fitting - it seems like everything has finally fallen into place.
