We've been exposed to a variety of new noise from Queens Of The Stone Age over the past month including the frenetically searing first single "My God Is The Sun" and the eerie slow drive of "I Appear Missing", and today we hear two new tracks off ...Like Clockwork that provide yet another bend of their sound. "I Sat By The Ocean" and "If I Had A Tail" were both recorded during a recent in-studio session for a Belgian radio station. Compared to the earlier singles, they definitely lack in quality, but that comes a radio recording, but additionally, they carry a very early 70s Maiden/Sabbath burn. But it's important not to jump to conclusions about the multiple divergences we're hearing. Looking at the wide array of guest performers that are featured on ...Like Clockwork (Dave Grohl, Elton John, Trent Reznor, Jake Shears, Alex Turner, etc. etc. etc.) it's no surprise there's going to be stylistic fluctuation throughout the album. What is important, however, is that the final product pieces together seamlessly without any track-by-track turbulence. Our hopes remain high that this will be one of the biggest and best albums of 2013. But there's always a chance that with such a large cast of big-name characters, Josh Homme could end up mimicking the wise words of Gob Bluth.
