Watching Seattle's Deep Sea Diver, it's hard not to be captivated by frontwoman Jessica Dobson's sheer rock 'n' roll energy. The music she makes with collaborators Peter Mansen (percussion) and John Raines (bass) is smart, spiky, and endlessly danceable (but we wouldn't expect any less from someone who's collaborated with Karen O and Beck). Dobson's voice is versatile, shifting between a ghostly falsetto and punk growl in seconds, and the musical landscape supporting her wavers and changes so often that you've got to play close attention or you may miss some of the gorgeous details they have lovingly orchestrated into every song. Dobson herself switches between pounding it out on the guitar, piano, and tambourine, all the while keeping up her charming charisma and killer pipes. Deep Sea Diver released their debut album History Speaks back in 2012, and we can't wait to see what they do next.
