Perfume Genius - "Otherside"
Who wants to spend their Cinco De Mayo crying? I do, I do! This song won't make you shed sad tears, but it will make you shed the kind of tears that come from experiencing pure awe and wonderment. I haven't been listening to Perfume Genius for long, but man, I have become an avid listener after the the release of his gorgeous new album, No Shape.
Noah Kahan - "Young Blood"
We just had a session with Noah Kahan and he blew me away with his angelic voice. Not only does this song take you on a wild, melodic trip, but it also has an empowering message. It justifies that we are young, and may choose random paths, and with that, make some mistakes, but in the end, we will be okay.
Blondie - "Long Time"
Who doesn't love Blondie? With hit after hit after all these years, how can I not have the upmost respect for them? "Long Time" is a blast from the past, with 80s synths, and gorgeous vocals from Debbie Harry. This emotional, upbeat banger is off of the rock band's new album, Pollinator,
Billie Eilish - "Bellyache (Marian Hill remix)"
I already loved this song from Billie Eilish because it's funky and incredibly fun. But Marian Hill put their spin on it and I just fell in love all over again. I'm ready for a debut album from Billie Eilish.
Zoology - "Escape"
Zoology is a brand spankin' new trio and I can't seem to find much about them online but I'm really diggin' their sound. I'm loving the retro feel of her voice and the production of this track is so funky and smooth. Zoology only has two songs on Spotify but I'll be sitting here, patiently waiting for more music from them.
Mac DeMarco - "Still Beating"
IT'S HERE! Finally. Mac DeMarco released This Old Dog
today and I've only heard it once all the way through this morning but I'm positive it'll be on repeat this summer. This is one of my favorites on the album because it's a sunny track that makes me want to lay on a beach all day.
Grizzly Bear - "Three Rings"
Anyone who knows me knows that Grizzly Bear is one of my favorite bands of all time, so when they dropped this new single
(their first since 2012's Shields
) I, naturally, listened to it over and over again during my 45 minute commute to work. The band sure has a knack for heart-wrenching builds...
Perfume Genius - "Sides"
Perfume Genius, aka Seattle-based Mike Hadreas, dropped his latest album No Shape
today and I think it just might be one of my favorite albums of the year. Too soon to tell? I think not. There's simply no other album that sounds like this - the production is outstanding and Hadreas is soaring freely more than ever before as both a writer. This song has got a little bit of Bowie vibes with the fuzzy lead guitar, but with an orchestra...
Mac Demarco - "On The Level"
Speaking of new releases, Mac Demarco also dropped his new album today, and this is hands down one of my favorite songs off of it. His usual goofiness is muted more than usual and his songwriting is gleaming. Plus, I'm a sucker for those detuned synths.
