is back with the incredible first single off of their follow up to 2012's Shields
. It's called "Three Rings" and after the 5 year long musical pause, it's sure to please a lot of fans. The song doesn't stray too far from the band's typical sound, but there's an intensity that's slightly more present. The constantly changing, jittery drums sound like they have ADD while a blaring bass line and synths work together to create a dark tone. Their signature surfy guitars are still prominent and, as always, the song works up to a fantastic build that showcases Ed Droste's knack for writing melodies. This multi-layered song sure is getting us hyped for the rest of the album, which still does not have an official name or release date.
