Nothing But Thieves - "If I Get High"
Describing Conor Mason as a powerhouse vocalist would be an understatement; Nothing But Thieves' song "If I Get High" gives off some serious Jeff Buckley vibes. It's intimate, beautiful, and it makes me tear up every time. It's nearly perfect.
Paramore - "Hard Times"
Paramore is back and I'm really feelin' this new single. It looks like Hayley Williams is capable of making some pretty killer music when she's feeling down.
Ariana and the Rose - "Supercool"
I love any song about being a cool girl. How relatable? It's also got that Robyn-esque danceability I crave on a Friday. We also recently did an interview
with her and can confirm that she is indeed, supercool.
Jimi Hendrix - “Who Knows"
Band Of Gypsys is one of my favorite live albums ever. I’ve listened to the opening track, “Who Knows," so many times and yet it’s still as infectious as when I first heard it. From Billy Cox’s funky, repetitive bass line to Buddy Miles’s wily vocals and, of course, Jimi Hendrix’s mind-blowing solos, it’s obvious why this is such a classic live recording.
Elliott Smith - “Junk Bond Trader"
An epic song from Elliott Smith’s masterpiece, Figure 8.
This was one of my favorite albums in high school, and I’m so glad I’ve been revisiting it this week. “Junk Bond Trader" is probably my favorite track on the album.
The Smiths - “Death of a Disco Dancer"
Okay, maybe I have a thing for artists named “Smith," for some reason. But this is one of the most underrated Smiths songs, in my opinion. Johnny Marr’s guitar playing is insane.
Cashmere Cat - “9 (After Coachella) ft. MØ, SOPHIE"
This track is dope because it features three of my favorite artists in one song! MØ’s mesmerizing vocals mixed with Cashmere Cat’s signature beat drops, and SOPHIE’s unique electronic flair makes for the perfect dance song.
alt-J - “Taro"
I’ve been listening to alt-J in anticipation for their upcoming album, Relaxer
. I’ve forgotten how much I used to listen to them and felt some overpowering nostalgia when listening to "Taro." Don’t you love it when you forget about a song and then it plays and you start spewing out all the lyrics by memory? That’s what happened when I listened to this track.
Amy Shark - “Adore"
We listed this track
as one of our songs of the day this week and I have not been able to stop listening to it since. There’s something about Amy Shark’s chorus that sounds very early 2000’s. Also, the lyrics are just so honest. It’s like we are hearing this straight from Shark’s diary.
