Next week, on June 2nd, indie-rock band Alt-J
is dropping their new album, Relaxer
. In anticipation for the group's third release, we're throwing it back to when we filmed the band's live performance at KEXP around the release of their debut album, An Awesome Wave.
We also interviewed the band after the set, and it offered great insight into their unique approach to songwriting. "We don't wear our influences on our sleeves," explained lead singer Joe Newman at the time. "We do have influences but they're sort of so embedded into our subconscious that we can't really tell you where they are and where they're from." It's an entirely believable explanation for the band's unusual sound.

The band has released two singles from Relaxer,
"3WW" and "In Cold Blood." Their new work sounds like a natural progression for the group, as well as more of what you loved from their previous two albums, all at the same time. Listen to "3WW" below.
