Memorial Day weekend is a time for something, but you're not even reading this between bloody marys, so we'll just cut to the chase. New tunes. BBQ bangers. A long holiday weekend in America. Kick back and push play. We'll see you on the boat.

New! Listen to (most of) the mixtape on Spotify!

    1. "Get Bent" - Mrs. Magician - Pity Party Animal

Seriously, I think I'm starting to mumble "Mrs. Magician" in my sleep.

    2. "Red Rose in the Cold Winter Ground" - The Dig - Midnight Flowers

Something about this song has me up late at night, contemplating. Reminds me of the pensive qualities of early Coldplay.

    3. "Heaven" - The Walkmen - Heaven

If "indie rock" was a football team, I feel like The Walkmen would be the mascot.

    4. "Hollywood Forever Cemetery Sings" - Father John Misty - Fear Fun

Needs more syncopation (just kidding). ON REPEAT.

    5. "What Makes A Good Man?" - The Heavy - What Makes A Good Man?

Hey you know that awesome song in all the Miller Lite ads on TV? This is the band that made that, and their next album is going to be even more bad-ass (if that's even possible). This is the "crank it to 11" jam of the weekend.

    6. "Missing Pieces" - Jack White - Blunderbuss

People always hate on Jack as being too much of a brand and not enough of a song-writer, but how can you deny that awesome keyboard riff? So Jack White, so awesome. Love how he's carved out his own spot in the blues-rock conversation for years to come.

    7. "Lazuli" - Beach House - Bloom

No one used Beach House as the butt of an indie rock joke more than me before this past month, but even I have to admit that this song is really well crafted and beautiful.

    8. "Trembling Hands" - The Temper Trap - The Temper Trap

From their self-titled LP, feels very spacious to me.

    9. "Obedear" - Purity Ring - Shrines

    3AM in the club.

    10. "Everything In Its Right Place [8-Bit Cover]" - Quinton Sung - Kid A [8-Bit]

This is the "are you still listening?" test. If this is your thing, this guy did the whole album (and OK Computer) and it's kind of awesome and you can download them here.
