The Yearning Roots Pop Of First Year On Earth

I'm from the South but I'm not from the Deep South. My home state, West Virginia, helps form the literal border of what is historically considered the South as we share the Mason-Dixon line with Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Maryland. But even though I'm not from the Deep South, when I heard the rootsy/folksy/country emotion of "Georgia," the track we're premiering today by Texas roots-pop group First Year On Earth, I was overwhelmed with memories of home and trees and a gorgeous night sky (three things that I can't get here in NYC). There's an unspoken yearning to the playful folk-pop melody at the core of "Georgia" and it hit me on a deeper emotional level than I'd expected. If you find yourself missing home today, "Georgia" might transport you where you need to go even if you aren't from the South at all.
