Although every week we put together the mixtape ourselves is a good week for new tunes, this one seems especially pregnant-- the excellent Father John Misty, new young acts like Mrs. Magician and Chappo, awesome contributions to the rapsphere from Killer Mike and Childish, and some new work from old standbys. Plus, an extended tribute to one of our favorite vocalists, who sadly left us this week. We work hard for the mixtape.

New! Listen to (most of) the mixtape on Spotify!

    1. "Prescription Vision" - Mrs. Magician - Strange Heaven

Best when served with a scoop of windows down at 65MPH.

    2. "The Only Place" - Best Coast - The Only Place

The only thing Best Coast loves more than her cat Snacks is the great ol' state of California.

    3. "This Is Sally Hatchet" - Father John Misty - Fear Fun

It's a bold move to ditch a band like Fleet Foxes, but J. Tillman holds his own (and then some) with his Father John Misty project.

    4. "Big Beast (Ft. Bun B, T.I., and Trouble)" - Killer Mike - R.A.P. Music

Anyone who says they just don't make rap like they used to isn't looking in the right places.

    5. "Hell No" - Chappo - Moonwater

Today's #1 "sing along" song, and given the competition, that's high praise.

    6. "High Fantasy" - Lace Curtains - High Fantasy [Single]

Michael Coomer did great things in his band Harlem, so it's no surprise his solo work as Lace Curtains continues to be affecting.

    7. "We Ain't Them" - Childish Gambino - We Ain't Them [Single]

Anyone who says Childish is a flash in the pan doesn't understand a damn thing about talent and ambition. He's like a sponge that absorbs criticsm and wrings out even more amazing work.

    8. "1904" - The Tallest Man On Earth - There's No Leaving Now

There's something about Kristian Matsson's voice that could be applied to any song or chord progression and still bring a tear to your eyes. Like, this guy could do an acoustic version of "Tick Tock" (in his style) and we'd probably love it. This is from his new album.

    9. "Henrietta" - Yeasayer - Henrietta [Single]

The band has referred to their new album as a "demented R&B record," which makes our already high hopes even higher. This track doesn't disappoint.

    10. "She Works Hard For The Money" - Donna Summer - She Works Hard For The Money [UK 12" Single]

    No comment necessary.
