Last week we tried something new: we blogged about a movie
. Today, we're giving it another shot, this time with a bit more of a musical focus. We came across a trailer for the upcoming documentary A Band Called Death
. Like Searching For Sugar Man
, this doc brings us back in musical history to Detroit, but now we're taken a bit deeper to the glory days of Motown. However, this little, unheard of (until recently) band called Death
were never given the chance to propel. Why? They were three African American teens making punk music before punk music ever existed. Recently, a long-lost demo from 1974 escaped a dusty attic, and Death has since gained a cult following, and we're sure this pseudo-anthropological look inside what was certainly the first black punk band, and quite possibly the first punk
band, will help fuel their well-deserved resurgence in music culture and history.
A Band Called Death
is due out on VOD/iTunes on May 24th, and in theaters on June 28th.
