Outside of the obvious lyric-heavy genres like folk and hip-hop, in today's music market, so many bands are obsessed with crafting just the right sound that the lyrical soul of a song is either an afterthought or buried under walls and walls of noise. That's why it was so refreshing to stumble upon (in the semi-literal sense of the word not the website) "High Fantasy" from Lace Curtains
. The band has a cool enough sound (mid-tempo alt-rock) but it's lead singer Michael Coomer's highly intellectual and poetic lyricism that hit us the hardest. Outside of Matt Berninger, rock has had a dearth of top-notch songwriters lately, but Michael Coomer is hoping to prove us wrong.
