Oh Dan Lopatin (better known as Oneohtrix Point Never
), you might be the last person I'd expect to shake me out of a mid-day funk, but the man who gave us one of last year's best albums (but also one of its mellowest), Replica
, managed to do it. Like Beck, he did his own cover of the 1934 classic track "I Only Have Eyes for You" and turned it into an experimental, avant-garde beauty. Ambient minimalism doesn't sound exciting and this track isn't going to make you want to mosh or tap your toes, but if you can appreciate ephemeral, open-ended tunes, check out Oneohtrix Point Never's gorgeous take on this American standard.
