Although she won a Superbowl contest that landed her a recording contract with Interscope Records, Kina Grannis left that prize behind in order to be an independent artist. Her devotion to indie tunes continues with her recent cover of Fleet Foxes' "White Winter Hymnal", a track that caters perfectly to her soft and floaty vocals, which coast over lyrics with an echoing elegance that is difficult to find in most female artists today.

While the Fleet Foxes version of "White Winter Hymnal" churns the hypnotic melody with a folksy direction to surround the vocals, Grannis' cover simplifies the instrumentals with brief acoustic chords and a beat that survives through quiet tapping. The resulting track possesses something of a Colbie Caillat feel, but digs slightly deeper into the listener with the soulful hint in Grannis' vocals. If there ever were a list of lullabies for adults, Kina Grannis' cover of "White Winter Hymnal" would definitely be an enchanting number to absorb.
