There's something in the air these days; people are craving authentic, straightforward rock. And that's exactly what Mittenfields' new video, "Optimists," is all about.
Guitarist Sam Sherwood has half-joked, "We wanted to do more than just prolong our adolescence playing rock." And they have. This D.C. based band plays music in the same line of fire as 90's grunge acts like Pavement and The Pixies. There's something classic and enduring about this kind of music, and to call it teenage angst is reductive. The video pairs the band members dressed in their winter garb, playing in the snow with swirling psychedelic colors. It's like looking at the iridescence of a gas puddle in a parking lot. These guys know what their doing, and they do it well. If that's not something to be optimistic about, then I don't know what is.
