I don't want to sound mean, but I guess there's no way to work around it, because this latest collaboration brought to us by World Star Hip Hop stars Justin Bieber
, Lil Wayne
, and DJ Khaled
does not deserve Chance The Rapper
, yet there he is. Right dead center of their new video "I'm The One." All of these artists (except Chance, AKA Dad) have bad reps. Bieber tells his fans he doesn't like them on a daily basis, Lil Wayne has broken the law a lot
of times, and Khaled is going viral on the internet for some silly shit every day... But Chance? What did Chance ever do to deserve this? Did they slap tape over his mouth, kidnap him in their trunk, and drive him to the video set where he then had no choice but to join?
When reading the headline, he so clearly sticks out like a sore thumb. He sticks out when watching the video, too. It all starts out with a not-so-subtle product placement as DJ Khaled sticks Beats ear buds into his waxy ear holes (poor ear buds) and then we see the five artists surrounded by big booties while they hang out by the pool (which honestly seems to be the bigger star of this overly-saturated video). Oh and then it ends with the rappers pointing bottles of Ciroc at the screen, because if you don't do shots of Ciroc, yer a nerd.
Chance comes in later with his verse and it still doesn't feel right. Where's the Chance that we all know and love - the career-driven, family-loving, ray of sunshine? The one who rapped alongside a giant puppet? Who donated a ton of money to Chicago public schools
? All I have to say is...Off-brand, Chance. OFF-BRAND.
