Well it's about damn time: Ladies and gentlemen, it's time to party like it's the late 2000s because indie-rock heroes Phoenix
are back with brand spankin' new music, their first since 2014's Bankrupt!
. After months of speculation, a tour announcement, a mysterious song title
in their lineup, and a lingerie ad
for some reason, the French band has officially released the song "J-Boy" (stands for "Just Because Of You"), and we're happy to say it doesn't disappoint. The song kicks off with a low-humming swell of synths, only to explode into a wave of soaring and shimmering guitars and keys that'll immediately hook you in for the whole four minutes.
Phoenix have been in the game for longer than people realize (their 2007 mega hit, Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix
, was actually their fourth album, not their first like most assume), and you can hear the band mature and tweak their sound between with every progressing album. "J-Boy," the first single off their upcoming album Ti Amo
, is arguably the band at their best and most focused thus far, finding the perfect mix of Wolfgang's
romantic playfulness and Bankrupt's
glistening production. It's a fun jolt of positivity that the band has proven to do so well over the years, and will undoubtedly be enough to get fans very, very excited for the new music to follow. Listen to "J-Boy" right here, and look out for Ti Amo
, out June 9.
