It's been about a week since Prince passed away and the tributes just keep rolling in and are only getting better. Last night on The Tonight Show, D'Angelo set the bar incredibly high for the tributes to come with his heart-wrenching rendition of Price's "Sometimes it Snows in April" from Prince's 1986 album Parade.
D'Angelo was bathed in purple lighting as he sat at a white piano only backed by Princess, the Prince tribute vocalists made up of Maya Rudolph and Gretchen Lieberum. Dressed in all-black from his hat to his shoes with a cream-colored fur vest, D'Angelo poured his heart and soul into every word. "Sometimes it Snows in April" is a heart wrenching piano ballad about accepting the death of a loved one and it happens to be about the same month that Prince passed away. D'Angelo altered one of the lines towards to end of the song to say "I often dream of heaven now I know that Prince is there," which caused him to be visibly emotional and missed the next line ("I know that he has found another friend"), which Princess sang for him. After the filming of D'Angelo's raw and unguarded performance, Questlove took to twitter to say "No performance on #FallonTonight has EVER moved me like this one..." D'Angelo's performance was a truly emotional, raw moment as we continue to honor the life of such a musical legend.
