Ravens & Chimes' sound is controlled and exact, balancing beautiful harmonies with a strong beat and a jovial aesthetic. Their sophomore release, Holiday Life sounds like it could have come out of the 70s folk era, with a jangling acoustic guitar and plucky disposition. It's no surprise that, according to their biography, lead man Asher Lack interned for Wes Anderson a while back-- the song is straight out of one of Anderson's Instagram-looking scenes, perhaps at a yacht race, or a thoughtful stare competition.

The New York five-piece's track "Hearts of Palm" features Lack's voice, which is a nice, nifty, pliable cross between Conor Oberst and Win Butler. The rolling drums, dissident organ and female harmonies make this song larger than a simple ballad, and shows off the band's talent for orchestrating. Download the track, "Hearts of Palm" below.
