SONG OF THE DAY: 'Boxes and Squares' by Tank and The Bangas

Maybe I'm just hungry, but I'm pretty sure Tank and the Bangas are the only band who can get away with this many food references in one song. You've probably heard of them from their 2017 NPR Tiny Desk Contest win. They were nothing short of incredible. Not only was their performance on point, but their humble attitude from winning Tiny Desk was evident. I might have even shed a couple tears while watching them shed tears in between songs.

The New Orleans-based musical group is a mix of soul, funk, R&B, and a touch of folk. The main singer, Tarriona Ball, has the same unique theatrics that Nicki Minaj had when she first started out as a rapper, but way better (sorry Nicki). Watching Tarriona's spoken word poetry tied within the music is magical. It was definitely this band's destiny to make the music they do, and share their musical wisdom with the world. Apparently seeing them live is a whole other story, so go out and buy your tickets ASAP!
