This week's SNL
guest was super-star Belgian-Aussie Gotye
, who is in the middle of tearing up North America
with support from Kimbra. "Somebody That I Used To Know" has more or less infiltrated the collective conscious without requiring the usual mass-hysteria elements, like a bass drop, over-dramatized sexuality, or a rap break. The success of the song is also in part due to the video, which also was the subject of one (of the two!) excellent digital shorts. Gotye also did "Eyes Wide Open." Check out both performances and a few select shorts below.
First off, host Josh Brolin barely even factored in during the episode. Like, where was he the whole time?
Hulu doesn't seem to have my absolute favorite sketch of the evening, but Gawker does
. The gang takes on explaining all the nudity in Game of Thrones
Gotye popped in to one of the digital shorts with Taran and Andy doing their best painted dance impression. SOMEBODYYYY.
Laser Cats 7
seemed pretty unlikely until they got a superstar director. You may have heard of him.
And of course, Gotye took his super-percussive stage show to the notoriously awful sounding SNL
stage and made it sound pretty OK!
