Back in January, Bernie Sanders was joined by Vampire Weekend's Ezra Koenig and Dave Longstreth of the Dirty Projectors, to play for Bernie supporters in Iowa City. Nothing secures the youth voters like the constant support of indie-rock bands like Vampire Weekend. With the New York primary coming up on Tuesday, April 19th, Bernie is giving it his all to beat Democratic rival, Hillary Clinton, by campaigning throughout the city with extravagant rallies featuring some pretty big celebrities and musical acts.
Last night, Bernie supporters gathered at Washington Square Park as Dave Longstreth joined the whole Vampire Weekend (which lessens the blow of Rostam Batmanglij's departure from the band and subsequent absence from the rally) as well as Columbia University Metrotones. They played a 4-song set that included "Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa," "Unbelievers," "A-Punk," and Dirty Projectors' "Rise Above." The Bernie rally also featured appearances from director Spike Lee and actors, Rosario Dawson and Tim Robbins.
Sanders really wants New York City to "Feel the Bern" as he keeps the rallies going through the weekend. Grizzly Bear will play at a Bernie Sanders rally in Prospect Park this Sunday, which will also feature appearances from Danny DeVito and Justin Long. Then on Monday night, TV on the Radio will join Bernie Sanders in Queens for a rally.
