Hey everyone! Its Coachella eve! Take a break from laying out your weekend outfit (flower crowns for her, the old reliable tank top/board short combo for him) and check out this throwback to Coachella 13, when we scaled the walls of a gated, Palm Springs community, found the perfect lagoon, and invited a few bands to stop by on their way in and out of Indio.
Totally get that the whole Coachella thing is all about relaxing and having a good time. But in all honesty, it was a pretty stressful trip. See, we're East Coasters...the endless expanse of the desert, the breakneck speed of traffic, and the prevailing attitudes of the neo-hippie #blessed-set make us a little twitchy. And like, we really didn't know what we would encounter out there. But our hosts for the weekend were lovely (they basically invited all of their friends over during our sessions and had a BBQ), the crew we hired was competent (for the most part...there was a terminal audio incident with our Lord Huron session, which we'll never truly get over), all of the bands that said they would come by showed up, and we even had a spare hour to actually pop in on the festivities at the polo grounds (seriously...in 2013 we can honestly say we went to Coachella...for 1 hour. It was late, we were tired, and all the bands we wanted to see came to us anyway...hows that for #blessed?).
One of those bands was The Airborne Toxic Event, who closed out our private festivities just as the sun was sinking behind the mountains, providing the kind of lighting you can't pick up at a rental house. It was the perfect conclusion to a slightly surreal kind of weekend. So, in honor of your big weekend in the dessert, we're making this one our #TBT. Have fun out there and #stayhydrated.
