Under the moniker Empress Of
, Lorely Rodriguez is a powerhouse electro-pop artist with a slinky voice and a message to send. Today she has released "Trust Me Baby" and "In My Dreams," her first two solo songs since last year's "Go To Hell." Since then she also collaborated with Khalid
and DJDS on their song "Why Don't You Come On" last year.
"Trust Me Baby" is like a pared-down glittering tune that struts and sputters over spare beats. Starting out in Spanish, Rodriguez's voice twists itself on top of swirling synths in what sounds like a plea (I could tell you exactly what it sounded like if I knew any Spanish) as she harmonizes with herself in the background. Breaking down into a hook that will have you swaying in no time, Rodriguez sings "trust me baby / confia en mi" against sparkling synths.
"In My Dreams" feels both sadder and more uptempo than the previous single. Again switching fluidly between English and Spanish, Rodriguez details a scene where "we went to the beach that night / the breeze sways back and forth". Rodriguez sings, making it feel like a chilly night on the beach.
Looks like while everyone else is warming up for the summertime, Empress Of isn't quite ready yet, giving us not one but two cool new tunes today.
