Since being relatively quiet after years of constant action and persistent creativity, Thrice have returned with full force and have dropped the first single, "Blood on the Sand," from their new album To Be Everywhere is to Be Nowhere, set to release on May 27 of this year.
Their latest track features melodramatic and subtle guitars, followed by an anthemic, screamed chorus that goes at full-fledged force which gets battered into the ear through repetition. I first saw Thrice live in 2014 among some post-rock style bands, and if one thing is for sure, their ability to captivate through the use of heavy, brooding melodies and explosive choruses is sure to continue into their latest work, and the hiatus doesn't seem to have hampered them in any way.
The first track makes for a powerful, memorable intro to the new album which seems to delve a bit into the experimental nature of the Alchemy Index albums which are definitely my favorite of the group while still maintaining that more poppy, upbeat kick present in other works. For the group to find a seamless common ground between the experimental and anthemic, as was done with "Blood on the Sand," is something that could definitely be the direction for the band to grow.
Whatever your personal favorites from Thrice are, chances are that the upcoming album is sure to channel some the group's best qualities that have resonated the most with them in their independent side projects they were involved with during the hiatus, so we can surely expect some great new influences from recent years.
And until the record is out, dig into our classic session with the band below.
