I've been with Baeble a long time now (January marked five years since I wrote my first post for the site). And I've seen a lot of band names. Some are great in the traditional sense of that word: Vampire Weekend, the War on Drugs, TV on the Radio. I've seen plenty of bad band names too. I love Real Estate; they're easily one of my favorite acts of 2010s, but try googling just Real Estate and see how long it takes til you make it to a page about them. And some bands defy the good/bad binary. They just simply are. Perfect Pussy, Fucked Up, Yuck. And, of course, there's Diarrhea Planet.
Diarrhea Planet have been around long enough to the point where maybe we shouldn't talk about their name everytime we talk about them but for f***'s sake, their name is Diarrhea Planet. The Nashville garage rockers are releasing a new record, Turn To Gold, later this year, and they've shared the foot-stomping lead single, "Life Pass," and all I can wonder is "how much bigger would these guys be if they didn't have a name that you wouldn't feel comfortable saying in front of your parents?"
