Chance The Rapper held an important press conference at Westcott Elementary School in Chicago to announce that he is donating $1 million to Chicago Public Schools. This is an important move for Chance. In the press conference he stated, "Our kids should not be held hostage because of our political positions." He also mentioned that he is working with Common to discuss funding. Public education affects the city of Chicago. Just like Chance, I believe a better future and society starts with the children. You can check out more of what went down in the press conference and hear some of Chances frustrations below:

Musicians are given large platforms to reach thousands of people everyday. It's a shame when their platform isn't used to benefit the public but fortunately, many artists realize the power they have to make a better future. Here are our favorite charities and organizations started by musicians.

    1. Happy Hippie Foundation

The Happy Hippie Foundation is a non-profit organization started by Miley Cyrus. Their mission is to rally young people to fight injustice facing homeless youth, LGBTQ youth, and other vulnerable populations. Supporters are able to donate directly onto the website. All operational costs are funded privately, 100% of the money benefit youth in need.

    2. Foster The Future

When Foster The People formed as a band, they promised themselves that if they ever had the opportunity to reach the masses, they would use their voice and their outreach to share the importance of giving back and helping others. Their first project was the "Do Good Bus" where they went on a North American tour with volunteers cleaning up impoverished communities. Check out the site here.

    3. Chief Cares Funds

This organization was started by Eric Church in the hopes of helping underprivileged families and children throughout Tennessee as well as his home state North Carolina. Throughout the years his organization has donated $1 million to diabetes research, donate clothing, beds, and food to orphanages in Nepal, and build shelters with clean water in Haiti. More info to donate here.

    4. Born This Way Foundation

The Born This Way Foundation is a non-profit organization started by Lady Gaga and her mother Cynthia Germanotta. This is a passion project to create a safer world and community. They promote safe spaces and pro-tolerance; nurtures those who have suffered in the face of bullying and abandonment.

    5. Keep A Child Alive

Keep A Child Alive, also known as KCA, is a non-profit organization started by Alicia Keys as an emergency push to get life saving HIV medication to children needlessly dying of AIDS in Africa. Their mission is to realize the end of AIDS in children and families, by combating the physical, social, and economic impacts of HIV.
