On Thursday, March 1st, fellow New Yorkers and myself found refuge at Brooklyn Steel from what seemed to be a never ending rainstorm. Okay, the rainstorm wasn't the only reason we were there to begin with. What actually brought us all together was Laura Pergolizzi, aka LP and her opener, the melodic Noah Kahan. This beats staying home and watching the rain from your window, if you ask me. And it seems like most of the people in attendance agreed with me as it was a sold out show. That's right, we didn't let a little rainstorm stop us from attending!

    Noah Kahan, Brooklyn Steel

As 21-year old Noah Kahan took the stage, the buzz from the crowd turned into excitement as he opened his set with "Hold It Down," which was released last year. As soon as the song ended he took the time to greet us and expressed his excitement to be opening for LP. As if you couldn't already tell by his music, he is actually very humble and grateful for where he is now in his career. He quickly spoke about the gelato shop he used to play at and how he prefers paying a venue like Brooklyn Steel over that any day. Brooklyn Steel being the biggest venue they'd ever played which caused him to "want to piss [his] pants!" He then continued his set with "Fine" and "Hallelujah."

Beautiful pinkish-purple lights surrounded him as he performed "Passenger," which helped set the mood. Kahan isn't much like his music -- his charisma and boyish charm reminds us that he is just a young man living his dream. Something you really don't expect since his songs are laced with youthful wisdom, nostalgia, and honest lyrics that anyone can relate to. His honesty made us all laugh as he said: "Please dear God buy my shit, I really need it!"

He then played "Hurt Somebody" which made the crowd go wild and "Young Blood," which he said is about what keeps him grounded and serves him as a reminder to continue to follow his dream. He definitely did an amazing job for someone who had just wrapped up their performance at the Colbert Show 15 minutes prior.

15 minutes later and LP began her set with songs from her latest LP, Lost On You. The singer-songwriter is quite petite but has such a strong stage presence and great voice. Dressed in an all black ensemble, the Dylan-esque singer looked rock 'n' roll chic as she was greeted with flowers, lettered "LP" balloons, and flags. No surprise that she would have such a warm welcome since she is a New York native playing at Brooklyn Steel for the first time.

For LP, music doesn't have to be complicated as she has said in the past: "I just go Johnny Cash on that shit and just get through it." Whether she has her guitar or ukulele in hand, her booming voice keeps you engaged song after song. She even has this subtle dance she does with her feet as she sings and plays, it's really the cutest thing to witness live. Not to mention her insane whistling skills which are out of this world. The singer even caught a bouquet of flowers mid song while singing "Suspicion" and she shared what inspired the song, "Suspicion is a disease." She played a new track for us titled "Girls Go Wild" and literally had the whole venue singing for her during "Lost On You." Before leaving the stage she thanked us and said we were a "lovely crowd" but in reality we were only that lovely thanks to her great tunes. Needless to say, we couldn't stay quite and she soon returned for an encore.

LP is set to perform a couple more shows in U.S. before taking her show to Russia later this month. You can catch Noah Kahan on tour with George Ezra on his North American tour this year.
