SXSW Band Of The Day: Great Lake Swimmers

    Great Lake Swimmers are part a tide of musicians that have been bridging the gap between old folk from the 60s and contemporary music. The group centers around the music of Tony Dekker, and although the remaining lineup has gone through many transitions, it's OK-- Dekker's vocals and songwriting skills don't need too much help. He's known for recording in old churches and abandoned silos, which makes for an awesome recording environment and provides an undoubtedly organic sound. Their fifth album New Wild Everywhere is scheduled to release 4/3 and they are currently on a tour in the US, Canada and across the pond in the UK to promote it. Of course, they'll be at SXSW too, so check them out at The Launch Pad if you'll be in town.
