Listening to Mansionair
is something akin to falling willfully into a day dream, gliding on the breeze of your own self-conscious while your descend into deep, silky meditations. Extensive, droning sonic caverns lead to hidden oases of lush vocal flourish. Hailing from Sydney, Australia, Lachlan, Alex and Jack produce the smoothest of downtempo electronica, and they've been gaining serious recognition for it.
Their debut EP, Hold Me Down
is a brief but beautiful introduction to what these guys are all about. The title track sounds like it could have been part of the Inception
soundtrack, leading the listener down a proverbial rabbit hole of swelling, distorted background effects and gently driving rhythms. "Second Night" impresses with even more intense torpor, instilling a pleasant sort of hypnosis as the vocals shimmer on about about a repeat rendezvous.
Their live act is astounding because unlike some other electronic artists, they faithfully reproduce their sound as if it were the album version, with the pleasant addition of human interaction. There is no backing track, only the effects driven guitar/keyboard player, the angelic vocalist (seriously this guy sounds like an angel,) and the spot-on drummer using an accoustic/electric hybrid.
