We will finally be able to listen to The Shins' upcoming album, Heartworms, in exactly one week. It's the first album The Shins have released in five years and I think James Mercer got a little excited because we've already heard almost half of the 11 tracks. "Mildenhall", "Name For You", and "Dead Alive" were all released in the past few months, while "The Fear" was premiered on a radio show. Today, The Shins have unveiled another single, "Painting A Hole."

It's definitely not your typical recipe for a Shins song. It's a blend of grooving synths and thumping drums, along with warped vocals, which makes for an extremely catchy, psych-pop track. When talking about the track, Mercer said, "People create beliefs or inherit them and those beliefs very rarely reflect the reality we live in every day. Like a coyote in a cartoon, painting a hole in the side of a cliff then falling through it, I think these belief systems are just about as ridiculous as that." Now try not to think of a Wile E. Coyote and Roadrunner when you listen to this catchy tune.
