Energy. Being able to physically feel the energy in a song is so magical and sometimes the only thing that matters when it comes down to it. Sure, you can play each note perfectly and take every move with ease, but there are times when the listener just needs to hear the artist let go and bash on their instrument without fear.
NYC-based rocker Vagabon
demonstrates the importance of this with her song "The Embers" and really her entire debut album, Infinite Worlds.
The DIY production isn't perfect, but it makes you feel something. Hearing Lætitia Tamko's cathartic thought process change as she transitions from the shy attitude of "I'm just a small fish"
to the crackled anger of "you're a shark that eats every fish"
makes you want to root for the indie rock underdog.
