It's been a year since Chicago indie rockers, Whitney
, released their debut album Light Upon The Lake
and they're celebrating by unveiling a new 12" before kicking off their world tour in April. It features a couple of cover songs - Dolly Parton's "Gonna Hurry (As Slow As I Can" and "You've Got A Woman" from the Dutch psych pop group, Lion.
"Gonna Hurry (As Slow As I can)" is one of Parton's earliest demos. With a honky-tonk piano and twangy guitar, vocalist Julien Ehrlich sings with the same range as the country legend. Whitney added their dazed, melodic style to "You've Got A Woman", making it sound like it's their own original track. In a press release, Ehrlich said, "It's quite evil-sounding for us. It was fun to mess around with something darker and throw strings in."
The 12" will be available at Whitney's merch booth while on tour, which kicks off this Saturday, April 1st, in Iowa City.
