Sometimes, I write enough about pop music
in a single day
that I just need some dissonant, distorted, spaced out, crunchy rock & roll to center me back for the day. So, as I usually am, I'm very thankful that Mogwai still exists.
The Scottish post-rock icons are coming back with a new record, Atomic
, due out 4/1. The tracks on the album are re-imagined versions of songs Mogwai wrote for a BBC program called Atomic
. I'm not British though and I never saw that program so this is my first exposure to these particular tracks, and it's definitely Mogwai and that's all that matters. They've got another single leading up to the album's release in a couple weeks, "Bitterness Centrifuge," and if you need some churning instrumental post-rock angst, Mogwai will always have you covered.
