Don't get me wrong I'm all for free speech and the first amendment, but Kid Rock need not worry that "Obummer" is going to repeal that one, that one's a keeper. This isn't about that, I believe that any numb-nut should have the right to say whatever the hell he wants even if he probably shouldn't, and Kid Rock is today's numb-nut. He's built a brand around his backwoods, guns blazing, zero-f*%s-given attitude, but this time he's out of line. This time he went after the Queen. I'm feeling defensive, as a Yankee, as a woman and as a culturally-proficient person living in the modern world.
He said, "Beyoncé, to me, doesn't have a f*cking 'Purple Rain,' but she's the biggest thing on Earth. How can you be that big without at least one 'Sweet Home Alabama' or 'Old Time Rock & Roll'? People are like, 'Beyoncé's hot. Got a nice f*cking ass.' I'm like, 'Cool, I like skinny white chicks with big tits.' Doesn't really fucking do much for me." ... Yeah, he said that. Out loud. To another human being. Who writes for Rolling Stone.
FIRST of all I'm gonna have to pull a Kanye West on this one, because Beyoncé's been winning Grammys and churning out no. 1 singles since she was 16! I mean, do you remember the mania when "Crazy In Love" came out?
"Bootylicious" is LITERALLY a word in the dictionary now, because of her. Have you ever been in a club when "Single Ladies" comes on? It's absolutely nuts. If that's not an anthem, then I don't know what is.
I'm hesitant to say Beyoncé songs are the Yanks equivalent to the Reb's "Sweet Home Alabama," but then again maybe it really can be reduced to that, north vs. south, maybe we haven't evolved all that much since 1865. Look, this isn't just a battle of north versus south, it's also a battle of the sexes. Rock is entitled to his taste, even if that means his Pamela Anderson ideal, but whether I like it or not he's a cultural figure and a role model for a lot of people, and I don't think he's taking that power seriously. "skinny white chicks with big tits" is a loaded image that's so stereotypical it makes you cringe. It disempowers everyone. Especially women. Whether it be a Caucasian woman with "big tits," or an African-American woman with a "nice f*cking ass." Sure, Rock can say whatever the hell he wants, but he should speak with a certain level of awareness and social responsibility. He's just reinforcing power structures that already exist, and what pisses me off is that he's making a truckload of money off doing it. Kid Rock, did the flop of your last album at least help pay for the fuel of your private jet?
Did you ever think, Kid Rock, that you were 'born free' because you're a straight white dude in America? How about a little less ignorance, and a little more respect...
