The Portland Cello Project is a rotating cast of cellists who have been bridging genres since 2007. Their philosophy of purpose is "to bring the cello to places you wouldn't normally hear it," "to play music on the cello you wouldn't normally hear played on the instrument," and "to build bridges across all musical communities by bringing a diverse assortment of musical collaborators on stage with them." The Portland Cello Project certainly accomplishes all three of those goals in spades with their cover of Jay-Z/Kanye West rager "H.A.M."
Listen as the Orchestra tears through a vicious chamber version of the rap duo's Watch The Throne single. The group is familiar with Kanye West, as they released a single of Kanye West/Rihanna covers last year via Kill Rock Stars. At certain points you may forget that this was originally a hip-hop song before a baroque rock jam. Jay and Yeezy might want to get these guys' numbers.
