Today we're premiering the new track and video for "Parachute" from indie rock outfit, Arms Akimbo
. Based in Los Angeles and inspired by bands like Local Natives, Portugal. The Man, and Hippo Campus, the four-piece succeeds at making triumphant music that's simultaneously fresh and nostalgic. Frontman Peter Schrupp's voice packs a punch of emotion and later when the song's chord progression switches up, empowering guitars harmonize with each other, creating a boundless feeling of energy.
The video shows Schrupp along with other band members, Chris Kalil, Colin Boppell, and Matthew Sutton performing - literally - in front of a parachute. Ah, that's the name of the song! We also see them driving around in a car together and petting an adorable puppy whose name is Teddy, the band told us.
"This video is the precursor to the actual party that our record, The Wrong Kind of Dance Party, takes place in," Schrupp shared with us. "It's the part 1 to a two-part story. In developing the story we had to dig into the lyrics and consider the tension between wanting to surround yourself with friends...join the party from the outside. It's pointless (and selfish) to complain about any opportunity where you're socially surrounded, but night after night, week after week the party exhaustion can set in. I think it takes some time to appreciate the beauty in those social situations and find the right people you want to be around who boost you up. This effort is super collaborative, given the lyrics were written by myself, the video was written and co-directed by our own Chris Kalil, and everyone in the band took a heavy role as a crew member."
The Wrong Kind Of Dance Party is out now.
