Are you a fan of dreamy synth-laden prog-rock? If so, Denmark's Mew may be right up your alley. Mew has flown under the radar for some time now, having already released four full length LPs that have gone by seemingly unnoticed. With their last two LPs, however, the band has been starting to achieve some notoriety here in North America. The latest, And the Glass Handed Kites, has generally been viewed as the band's breakthrough album. If you haven't had a chance to hear it, listen to The Zookeeper's Boy and you'll get a good idea of what this band is capable of.

Mew, which is made up of Jonas Bjerre, Bo Madsen, and Silas Utke Graae Jrgensen, has been working diligently on their 5th studio album, which was originally slated for a fall of 2008 release, but has since been bumped back to a June 2009 release. In an interview with Spin Magazine, lead singer Jonas Bjerre outlined some of the details regarding the new album. Whereas the previous two albums, Frengers and And the Glass Handed Kites, were comprised of songs that all played into one another, on the new album the band has kept all the songs as individual songs with beginnings and ends. As Bjerre put it, "We didn't want to do that again, we wanted to have separate songs. I think it's like a counter reaction to what we did last time." He also told SPIN that two of the songs on the album would be called "Cartoons and Papier Macher" and "Beach". As for an album title, we will still have to wait, as the band has yet to divulge that information. Along with the album's release the band is slated to perform at a number of festivals this summer.
