, born Valerie Teicher, is about to release her debut album Crawl Space
at the end of the month and we've only heard two singles off it, "Keep Running" and "How Far," but it's safe to say it's going to be amazing. The Brooklyn-based, R&B/pop singer is following up her video for "Keep Running" with the heart-racing clip for "How Far."
The video illustrates getting to a point in a toxic relationship where you need to escape because there's a fine line between being in love and being destructive. It begins with Teicher crawling out of the boot of an abandoned car then staggering down the middle of a snowy road as her abductor races up from behind. An injured Teicher makes a run for it into the woods and hides in an abandoned building, where she hears the rumble of the car outside.
The video was directed by production studio DREAMTIGER, who said the video is "about a relentless force always following you, always dragging you back, and sometimes you don't know whether you can survive." It drew inspiration from Costa-Gavras' film Z
and an unreleased Kanye West video that was directed by Steve McQueen.
Although Tei Shi has been releasing songs since 2013, we feel like the debut album is a sign that the singer-songwriter has spent the last years refining her sound to exactly where she wants to be. Crawl Space
will be out on March 30th and we'll be here - impatiently waiting.
