As you may or may not know, one of our goals here at Baeble, besides filming all of these amazing concerts for you, is to express our love for music. One of the ways in which we do so is by sharing our thoughts about new bands and artists that we think more people should know about. Today we would like to bring to your attention a new solo artist that has been getting a lot of play around these parts. He goes by the name of Peasant.

You may have heard him on last week's T.G.I.Mixtape. Maybe you heard his amazing performance on Daytrotter. Or perhaps you just know him because you are ahead of the curve. But if you don't know who Peasant is, now is your chance to make the discovery. His real name is Damien DeRose and he is from Doylestown, Pennsylvania. His music is simple; essentially nothing more than his acoustic guitar and voice. When listening to his music, it's hard not to make comparisons to artists of similar style; artists like Chris Garneau, Bon Iver and Elliott Smith. Like these artists, Peasant opens up his heart to the world, writing emotional, heartfelt ballads, just him and his guitar.

Peasant has a short tour lined up which starts tonight in New York City, at the Music Hall of Williamsburg, opening for Cursive. He has also just released his debut album, entitled On The Ground (Paper Garden Records), and let me tell you it is stellar. So if you are interested in something a little more on the quiet side open up your hearts to Peasant. -Greg Lozoff
