Australian singer-songwriter Vance Joy
recently brought his sun-kissed brand of indie-pop to Atlantic Records for an uplifting session with Baeble, and you can watch the whole thing right here, as it is out now.
Vance Joy began his journey to mainstream success with the release of his debut EP God Loves You When You're Dancing
in 2013, a recording which spawned the hit single "Riptide". In the years that followed, "Riptide" paved the way for widespread commercial success, becoming the longest-charting song in ARIA Chart history. He even performed the song for us plus others in an older session
. The track also featured on Joy's debut studio album Dream Your Life Away
, and by January 2016 it had been sitting pretty in the singles chart for an astounding 120 weeks.
Fresh from this staggering success, Vance Joy hasn't been content to simply rest on his laurels. A new song, "Lay It on Me", appeared last summer to remind everybody of Joy's vocal talent and prove that he was no one-hit wonder. Just a few short months ago, in November 2017, it was announced that "Lay It on Me" was the precursor to a second full-length release, Nation of Two
. In the lead-up to the album's launch, we were treated to a series of indie-folk gems to whet appetites - "Like Gold", "We're Going Home", "Saturday Sun", and "Call If You Need Me".
In the wake of these teasing tracks, Nation of Two
was released last Friday, February 23rd, and Joy was in understandably jubilant form when he arrived for our session. The new record is an introspective slice of breezy folk-pop and it was great to have the opportunity to see Vance Joy showcase his songwriting chops in such an intimate environment.
