With the breakthrough success of acts like Mumford and Sons or Old Crow Medicine Show, roots music is back, and even if Mumford is a group of snazzily dressed British dudes, their music is straight Americana. Hell, they even cite John Steinbeck's novels as lyrical inspirations. These United States
are actual Americans making their own brand of rootsy alternative country (with flashes of psychedelic and garage rock) on their new self-titled album which drops on 6/12. The newest single, "Dead and Gone," features Isaac Brock style phrasing over reverb heavy guitar hooks that would make Jack White proud. The lyrics are pure outlaw country, with a great tongue-in-cheek sensibility.
