We're Living in a Nicki Minaj World, Not a Taylor Swift One

Honestly, if you had a choice between two people, and you had to say who you like better, would you pick the person that's always complaining about their relationships and can never seem to be happy with anybody that they're with, or would you rather pick the person that doesn't really care about any of that, loves themselves, and projects that confidence and attitude on to everything that they do, not giving a fuck in the process?

Yeah, I'd pick the second choice, too.

I'm referring to Taylor Swift and Nicki Minaj. According to Complex, they have been in a little bit of a sales beef (I'm sure they're good friends though), and recently, Minaj passed Swift for a higher number on Top 100 hits for women. Their different attitudes towards life and their music are probably why.

Sure, Taylor is going to be there when you need to eat a gallon of ice cream and watch The Notebook after a breakup, but who's going to give you the self-confidence to actually feel good about yourself, and be confident enough to try again? I'm sure you know the answer. And if it's a choice between saying, "I knew you were trouble when you walked in" over "starships, we're meant to fly"; one is just insecure and distrusting of the world, and the other is confident and sexy. Be confident and sexy. Who cares if he's trouble, be a starship. Don't let him stop you from flying, girl.

To go back to the idea of sales, the person who owns the title for most Top 100 singles for women is the queen of soul herself, Aretha Franklin. This is a confident woman in every respect, making music that showed the soul in life, and wanted to bring people up with her. In other words, a pretty amazing woman. Also consider, in the 1960's it was not easy to be a confident woman, let alone a confident black woman. The fact that she said "fuck it" to all of that is nothing short of inspiring, and she gave women hope. That's why she's able to hold that title.

Regardless about you feel about Minaj's music, she's a confident woman too, and that confidence is a better example than Swift further perpetuating the notion that women need to be tied to some guy that she doesn't even trust in order to be happy. Only you can make you happy; and that's something to be proud of. Who cares about that guy that never texted back, or that guy who only wanted you for a one-night stand. You don't need him. Nicki is a way to move on. Taylor is a way to be stuck in the past.

Ultimately that's why people like Aretha Franklin, Nicki Minaj, and Beyonce are so loved and are able to score hits like this. Because they love themselves, and they want you to love yourself as well. ("Love Myself" by Hailee Steinfeld starts playing).
