One of my favorite parts of this gig is seeing young bands on the up & up and looking at the ways they continue to hone and refine their aesthetic. About ten months ago, I had the pleasure of premiering a music video for a track called "NoNoGoGo"
by Brooklyn electro-psych-garage rockers the Fantastic Plastics
. We also premiered the band's single for their track "It's All Plastic"
off the band's album Devolver
which has been out since September of last year now. And the band is back to continue the cycle with the deliciously retro video for "Troublemaker."
Like the postmodern lovechild of Max Headroom
, Flash Gordon
, and every 1950s B drive-in science fiction movie that ever existed, "Troublemaker" captures the goofy sci-fi vibes that are at the heart of the Fantastic Plastics charm. And the track itself finds room in their 80s New Wave throwback sound for just a hint of Bikini Kill-esque 90s alt. Keep giving us more of this, and the Fantastic Plastics are going to keep us all very happy here at Baeble.
The band will be playing a set at Pianos this Friday, February 12th.
